And so, more than two months ago, we boasted that we’d quickly bring multiple avatars to the network. Boy have we been wrong. Well, eight weeks and a lot of hair loss later, we are finally zeroing in on a Mac/PC release for full avatar network support.
As always, it wasn’t really the avatar switching itself that held us up, but the intricacies of how things work together in a client-server environment. We had to make sure that every avatar is loaded correctly for the correct player on every machine, and that this propagates correctly though the network. And of course, our beautifully scripted, but unfortunately somewhat tricksy invisibility manager didn’t like that one bit.
But we now feel confident that we have a handle on the network avatars, and are looking forward for the June Alpha.
